Plan Background
Plan Projects is a cultural consultancy that works with artists, developers, local authorities, regeneration agencies and communities across the UK to deliver public artworks and cultural programmes which are specific and responsive to their context, and which fulfill a set of clearly defined objectives.
The business was founded by Ivan Tennant in November 1997. Working out of small gallery premised in Spitalfields in East London, its original thrust was to provide exhibition space for emerging artists creating experimental and innovative art and build a stable of artists through a busy exhibition programme.
It developed into its current form through an increasing interest in the role of the art beyond the gallery walls and how art could have a real and regenerative impact on the lives of people. Our work falls into two broad categories:
Public Art Strategies: introducing the creativity of artists into the public realm to deliver value to stakeholders.
Area Cultural Strategies: using culture to improve the social, physical and economic lives of the people who live, work or study in a given area.
All our projects are underpinned by our core principles,
Commission the best creative talent that is relevant to the project
We deliver the highest standards of art in the public realm. Our specialist arts training and expertise, along with an active and thorough knowledge of the art community and developments in public arts practice, gives us access to the most exciting and challenging creative practitioners.
Specific as possible to each site
Every project and opportunity is individual and so are our processes. We conduct thorough research and consider the history, context, future plans, and views of key stakeholders and partners before developing our strategies.
Prioritise the concerns of the client
We work with our clients to establish a close understanding of what they want to achieve and place these outcomes at the heart of our approach.
Led by valuable consultation
Our projects consider the voices of the people local to the project. We are experienced in devising consultation exercises, taking into account the cultural sensitivities of participants, to ensure our strategies are rooted in their local cultural context. |
