The Halpern Partnership, Warwick Road, London
Integration of art works into the architecture of a residential development on the Warwick Road in London as part of application for planning.
Client: The Halpern Partnership Artist: Jo Fairfax Architects: The Halpern Partnership Local Authority: Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea
Background
The architects were looking for an art solution to the need for a source of warmth and illumination on the façade of the building and for a subtle form to act as a emblem for the scheme as a whole.
Concept
Jo Fairfax collaborated with The Halpern Partnership to create proposals for artworks incorporated into the glass at the entrance hall of the apartment block. The works would be fabricated from a series of dry laminated ‘lenticular’ strips; these are a type of glazing technique that can emit light.
The form proposed echoes the flows within the architecture; the piece will change colour as people pass by the window producing a warm, welcoming and unique feature.
