MHS Homes, Rochester

Plan worked with MHS Homes on a series of sculptural and architectural art interventions at one of their properties in Rochester, Kent.

Client: MHS Homes
Artists: Jo Fairfax and Benedict Carpenter
Local Authority: Medway Council

The site in question was undergoing a complete regeneration; as part of the strategy the association wished to commission works that would help breathe fresh life into what was regarded as a stagnant and down at heel environment. The policy is part of a dynamic and forward-thinking approach designed to lift the quality of life and sense of civic pride within the estate.

Plan worked with MHS Homes to develop a public art strategy encompassing both architectural art that would interface directly with the form of the buildings and sculpture that would be placed in the environment of the buildings.

Two of the most noteworthy proposed artworks were illuminations by Jo Fairfax and sculpture to provide public seating by Jerwood Sculpture prize winner Benedict Carpenter.
