01/03/09 Public Art Strategy welcomed by Borough of Poole

Plan Projects is working with Manchester based developer, Nikal and MMC Estates, on a Public Art Strategy for their site at West Quay Marina in Poole, on the South Coast of England.

Since May 2008 Plan Projects has been working with the Manchester based developer, Nikal and MMC Estates, on a Public Art Strategy for their site at West Quay Marina in Poole, on the South Coast of England. The document, the first that has been commissioned in the Poole area, will provide the local authority with a model and template that will be used to develop public art projects in the town in the future. 

West Quay Marina is a major harbour-side scheme that will add a dramatic new mixed use development to Poole’s picturesque shoreline and, as it lies adjacent to the RNLI national headquarters and town’s historic town centre, it will also will connect some of the key parts of the town.

Developing the document has been a methodical process, working closely with both the development team and the Arts Team at the Borough of Poole. The first phase of our work has now been completed with the acceptance of first draft of the Public Art Strategy by the borough; this will now be incorporated into our client’s documents for outline planning approval, anticipated in Spring 2009.
