Trumpington Meadows Land Company has appointed Plan Projects to put together a detailed Area Cultural Strategy for Trumpington Meadows, a major urban extension project in South Cambridge.
Trumpington Meadows Land Company (TMLC), a joint venture between Grosvenor and the Universities Superannuation Scheme, has appointed Plan Projects to put together a detailed Area Cultural Strategy for Trumpington Meadows, a major urban extension project in South Cambridge.
Relief work by Eric Gill at the Village Cross
The comprehensive proposal for Trumpington Meadows will deliver a sustainable urban extension at Trumpington as part of the Cambridge Southern Fringe. The bulk of the site is greenfield and part of this will be used to create a country park, to be delivered by the Wildlife Trust. The vision for renewal is to bring forward a residential-led mixed use development of 1200 dwellings divided into four ‘quarters’ properly supported by excellent transport, educational and social infrastructure.
The River Cam runs through it
TMLC, together with Cambridge City Council and other key stakeholders are committed to the notion that cultural activity of different sorts has a key role to play in the transformation to take place at Trumpington. Plan will develop the ACS with the overarching goal of identifying how culture can help deliver sustainable economic, social and environmental improvements at the site. Our intention is to employ the best creative practice to deliver projects that understand their context and promote the values of ‘quality and distinctiveness’ that underpin the project’s Design and Access statement. Given its scale, the site abounds with opportunities. Our recommendations will therefore take in the subtle as well as the bold, projects of both a temporary or permanent nature and performance related events such as festivals and one-off spectacles.
