Plan Projects has been successful in winning a local authority tender with Cambridge City Council to develop a public art plan for a key site in Cambridge – the Mill Road Cemetery. Mill Road is a ‘closed cemetery’ and has become an multi-functional green space open to the entire community. It is truly a place of peace and tranquillity; the gravestones are in places over grown and there is a rich diversity of wildlife that has made a habitat out of its hidden corners and areas of dense undergrowth. Equally, there are open places punctuated with gravestones, where children play and families and students pass the time of day. Ways are now being sought to build on this asset and increase the value to the community through a variety of measures of which the art project forms one part.
